	<title>Sailfert Ultra Calcium Test Kit</title>
<description>Salifert Ultra Calcium Test Kit. Calcium is a major constituent of calcareous algae, skeletal material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft and leather corals. Calcium also fulfills many biological functions. Quite often a too low calcium concentration retards coral and calcareous algae growth. NSW contains 400 to 450 mg per liter calcium. Which is also the value we should strive for. For a stable aquarium environment the fluctuation in calcium content should preferably not more than approx. 15 mg per liter. This automatically means that the calcium test should be able to monitor comparable fluctuations. Conclusion, In a healthy aquarium growth and multiplication of corals, desired calcareous algae and other organisms results in calcium depletion. Because of the importance of calcium timely corrective measures would have to be taken. For that purpose a proper calcium additive together with an accurate test kit are required. Our calcium test is capable in resolving the calcium content in 10 mg per liter steps. The color change is sharp and facilitates the detection of small but highly significant fluctuations in the calcium concentration. Salifert is the only one in offering a true accuracy and precision as claimed. The kit can perform approx. 50 to 100 measurements. Saliferts Coral Calcium additive is manufactured using a very special procedure. This results in a highly concentrated additive that not only makes calcium addition easy, it also avoids that the ionic balance is disturbed when used in combination with our KH plus pH Buffer or any other sodium based buffer. Common additives, which contain only calcium chloride or improperly use of kalkwasser (calcium hydroxide), can upset the ionic balance resulting in aquarium water very different from NSW.

Manufacturer Info

American Marine Pinpoint Aquarium Supplies
American Marine was founded in 1989 by a devoted aquaculturist who was passionate about quality and precision. Back in the late 80s, critical water quality parameters were mostly tested with colorimetric test kits. Some digital instruments were borrowed from university or laboratory sources with mixed results but always a high price tag. Expensive European aquarium equipment was always a disappointment when it finally arrived. Inexpensive "pens" gave no better results than color test kits and prematurely failed even when testing for approximate readings.

Using the most current technology and design, American Marine introduced Pinpoint Monitors, which have become the most respected line of digital instruments in the aquaculture business. American Marine was the first to introduce a 2-year warranty on each and every monitor. For every purpose, from a goldfish bowl to a salmon hatchery, Pinpoint Monitors are called into duty every day because of their rugged design, precise readings and reasonable cost. American Marine has sold Pinpoint Monitors on every continent. Each monitor is powered by a standard 9 volt battery that is available worldwide.

	<title>D-D SeaWater Refractometer with ATC</title>
<description>D-D announces the release of a true Seawater calibrated refractometer

Whats different between our NEW refractometer and others you might ask?

Almost all, if not all, of the refractometers currently available to the aquarium hobby are designed for measuring saltwater (sodium chloride or brine solution) and not true seawater. Although seawater is mostly sodium chloride it also contains other elements such as magnesium and calcium that change the refractive index slightly and will give a slightly different result.

The most common symptom of this difference in refractive index can be seen when mixing up salt as per salt manufacturers instructions and achieving a solution strength where it appears, through testing, that the levels of elements are lower than stated by the manufacturer. In actual fact all of the levels are low as the salinity is not as high as the aquarist believes we have all seen low Ca or Mg for a given SG with almost all brands of salt.

It turns out that a 35ppt solution of true seawater has the same refractive index as a 36.5ppt solution of brine and so when using a brine/salt refractometer the salinity is likely to be low by 1.5ppt. This can be allowed for by the aquarist but only if they are aware of the difference.

After extensive development, D-Ds new refractometer addresses this issue, giving true salinity results when correctly calibrated and greater accuracy than previously attainable.

<title>Elos Aqua Test KH - Alkalinity Test Kit</title>
<description>Elos Aqua Test KH - Alkalinity Test Kit
The alkalinity of a solution refers to its capacity to buffer against drops in pH. It is a measure of the concentration of various negatively charged ionic compounds (anions) such as carbonates, bicarbonates, borates and hydroxides in the aquarium water. The concentration of these ions determines the buffering capacity of the water to maintain proper pH. If the percentage of the hydrogen carbonate and carbonate ions is too low, the pH value of the water may drop severely (acidity drop) causing a life threatening condition for many plants, invertebrates and fish.

The ideal value of KH in a saltwater aquarium is 7-10 dKH and for a planted freshwater aquarium is 3-7 dKH.

Because of the importance of KH, it is necessary to keep the proper KH level by testing it with an accurate test kit. ELOS AquaTest KH, as well as all the other titrimetric test kits of this line will grant very high precision thanks to several procedures like the use of calibrated droppers with constant and predefined drops of 0.05 ml each, the validation of our reagents through NIST (National Institure of Standard and Technology) validation and the careful stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch.

HIGHLIGHTS:

# High precision: thanks to the use of calibrated droppers
# NIST validation: each batch is validated using NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) samples.

Product Manuals &amp; Documentation

ELOS AQUA TEST KIT- MAGNESIUM (Mg)

Magnesium (Mg) is present in a high quantity (1300-1350 ppm) in natural seawater. Contrary to its not only quantitative significance, this element was ignored as an important parameter of the marine aquarium for a long time.
We know today that Magnesium creates a remarkable improvement in the growth of calcareous algae and also has a positive influence on the growth of invertebrates and macro algae. The ideal value of Magnesium in the aquarium is: 1100-1300 mg/Lt for the marine aquarium. Because of the importance of Magnesium, it is necessary to keep the proper level by testing it with an accurate test kit.

ELOS AquaTest Mg, as well as all titrimetric test kits of this line, grant very high precision thanks to several procedures like the use of calibrated droppers with constant and predefined drops of 0.03 ml each, the validation of our reagents, through NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) validation and the careful stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch.

	<title>Elos Aqua Test PO4 - Phosphate Test Kit</title>
	<description>Aqua Test PO4 - Phosphate Test Kit
ELOS AQUA TEST KIT- PHOSPHATE

Phosphate (PO4) build up in aquariums appears to be a fairly common problem in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. They are present in most tap water supplies and are also introduced to aquarium water through fish waste, uneaten fish food, and decaying plant and invertebrate material. Hobbyists end up with rising levels of PO4, leading to the appearance of algae that start to cover the tank panes, the substrate and just about anything else in the tank. The maximum value of PO4 in an aquarium is 0.01 mg/l (ppm) for saltwater aquarium and for fresh water aquarium is 0.5 mg/l (ppm). In deeply planted aquarium the maximum level can achieve up to 1 mg/l (ppm). The periodical analytical evaluation of phosphate in the aquarium should be considered by the serious aquarium enthusiast.

ELOS AquaTest PO4, as well as all the other colorimetric test kit of this line, grant very high precision thanks to several procedures like the use of RealColor technology, an accurate system to calibrate the color chart compared to the reagents; the validation of each reagent with NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) certified samples and the careful stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch. Our PO4 test, allows the determination of the Phosphate down to a level of only 0.01 mg/l (ppm) Phosphate presence.

HIGHLIGHTS:

# Easy reading: RealColor technology.
# High precision: thanks to the use of calibrated droppers
# NIST validation: each batch of elos reagents is validated using NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) samples
# "Safe reagents": reagents and testing procedures are based on Low Risk Reagents. None of our test kit are based on Toxic Reagents.

<title>Elos Aqua Test PHM - pH test Kit Marine</title>
<description>Elos Aqua Test Kit - pH Marine Information

ELOS AQUA TEST KIT- PH MARINE

The pH value or acid value indicates how acidic or alkaline the water is. It is a measure of the concentration of the acidic or alkaline components in a hydrous solution. Pure water will react neutral and has a pH-value of 7.0. If the acidic components are predominant, the pH value will drop below 7.0. If the basic components are predominant, the pH-value will rise above 7.0.

The saltwater aquarium pH-value is considered between 8.1 and 8.4 pH which is the value found in natural seawater. Many organisms in a saltwater aquarium are very sensitive swings in pH value or values away from the acceptable range so a regular check on the pH-level is necessary to note and to avoid any negative development.

ELOS AquaTest pHM, as well as all the other colorimetric test kit of this line, grant very high precision thanks to several procedures like the use of RealColor technology, an accurate system to calibrate the color chart compared to the reagents; the validation of each reagent with NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) certified samples and the careful stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch. ELOS AquaTest pH M shows a range of 8.1 to 9.0 pH-units.

HIGHLIGHTS:

# Easy reading: RealColor technology.
# High precision: thanks to the use of calibrated dropper
# NIST validation: each batch of elos reagents is validated using NIST(National Institute of Standard and Technology)samples
# "Safe reagents": reagents and testing procedures are based on Low Risk Reagents. None of our test kits are based on Toxic Reagents.

<title>Elos Aqua Test CA - Calcium test Kit</title>
<description>Elos Aqua Test CA - Calcium test Kit

ELOS AQUA TEST KIT- CALCIUM

Calcium is the primary building block of corals, clams, calcareous algae and many other organisms that we grow in our aquarium. Without adequate supplies of calcium these organism will not flourish and will eventually waste away and die.
The ideal value of calcium for a marine aquarium is between 380-450 mg/Lt (ppm) and for planted freshwater aquarium 100 mg/Lt (ppm). Because of the importance of calcium it is necessary to keep the proper calcium level inside our marine aquariums by testing it with an accurate test kit.

ELOS AquaTest Ca, as well as all the other titrimetric test kit of this line, offer very high accuracy thanks to several procedures including: calibrated lab droppers with consistent and predefined drops of 0.03 ml each, NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) certified samples to validate reagents and strict stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch available.

HIGHLIGHTS:

# High quality system: one powder reagent and two liquids!
# Standard sensibility: 25 ppm of Calcium ions.
# NIST validation: each batch is validated using NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) samples.
# "C" reagent available as separate sales unit.
# High number of test per kit: up to 40-50 test depending on Ca level.
# "Safe reagents": reagents and testing procedures are based on Low Risk Reagents. None of our test kits are based on Toxic Reagents.

	<title>Phosphate Mini-Lab Test Kit</title>
<description>All living matter, both animal and plant, contains about 1 % Phosphorus in the form of Phosphate (PO43-). Every time the fish are fed, some Phosphate is introduced into the aquarium. Waste products of the fish and bacterial breakdown of food remains also introduce Phosphate into the water. In nature a true Phosphorus cycle exists. Phosphate is an important plant fertilizer that stimulates plant growth at very low concentrations. The Phosphate level in unpolluted natural waters is always very low, and Plants use so much that there is always a demand for it. In the aquarium, the fish density is much higher than in nature. In most aquariums the plant growth is insufficient to use up all the Phosphate that is added with feeding, therefore it accumulates in the water. This leads to several undesirable effects, in particular blue, green and hair algae find favorable conditions and grow very fast. Marine invertebrates like corals may loose their zooxanthellae, (tiny brown algae that live in the tissue of invertebrates leading to degeneration and eventually to the death of these sensitive animals. Especially in a reef aquarium, the Phosphate level should be checked every week. The concentration should be as low as possible with 0.3 ppm as an absolute maximum for the reef aquarium. Higher concentrations than this value are not in any way toxic for marine or freshwater fish - the danger lies only in the fact that the water gets over fertilized, which results in algae growth and harm to invertebrates.

	<title>pH and Alkalinity Mini-Lab Test Kit</title>
<description>Introduction to pH &amp; Alkalinity The pH is a very important parameter in the biology of aquatic organisms. It is a measure of the acidity or basicity of the water. The scale runs from zero to 14. Zero is the most acidic, 7 is neutral and 14 is the most basic. A change of 1 pH unit, for example from 7 to 6, means that the water gets 10 times more acidic. Due to its chemistry, saltwater is able to absorb a certain amount of acidic matter without a resulting change in pH. The substances in the water that do this are called buffers. The ability of water to withstand changes in pH is called buffer capacity. Based on a method of measuring buffer capacity it is referred to as the alkalinity of seawater. In some of the literature alkalinity is termed "Carbonate Hardness" or "KH Carbonate Buffer". This is exactly the same measurement as is measured in the Alkalinity Mini-Lab Test. pH and alkalinityThe pH of natural seawater varies geographically in the world's oceans between 8.1 and 8.4. On a local scale the pH is however remarkably stable. This is due to dissolved buffers (mainly bicarbonates), which prevent pH changes. Because of the enormous volume of the ocean, a nearly inexhaustible stock of buffers are present: the sea can take up large amounts of acids, without a noticeable change in pH. Compared to the sea the volume of a marine aquarium is very limited and therefore the alkalinity is also limited. As fish produce acid waste products and as the buffering substances are used up by calcareous algae and invertebrates, the buffer capacity may become so low that the pH could suddenly fall. This would be very dangerous to all organisms in the aquarium. The alkalinity is measured in so called milli-equivalents of alkaline substances (for example sodium bicarbonate) per liter. These alkaline substances have the power to prevent pH drops. The alkalinity of natural seawater is approximately 2.5 milli-equivalents per liter. This level should also be maintained in the marine aquarium. A common symptom of an unsuitable pH is pH-stress. Especially in the marine aquarium, unsuitable pH values are very stressful to fish, and increase the chance of the fish being susceptible to disease (marine white spot). To maintain a correct and stable pH, check the pH and alkalinity weekly. Recommendations:A low pH should be corrected by a 10% water change every day until the right pH is reached. A low alkalinity should be corrected by firstly making a 10% water change. Re-check the alkalinity and if still low, add Reef Success Buff until a normal level can be reached. It is permissable to add Red Sea's Marine Success Buff. If a more accurate test is required, purchase Alkalinity Pro Test, which is part of the Red Sea Coral Kit. Maintaining a stable pH and a high buffer capacity of your aquarium can be achieved in several ways. Change 10% of your aquarium water every week, Red Sea's Red Sea Salt is particularly suitable as it is rich in natural buffers, enabling you to keep the buffer capacity at the optimum level. Weekly water changes should be accompanied by regular addition of a buffering solution such as Red Sea's Reef Success Buff supplement which contains carbonates and bicarbonates of Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and Boron in a balanced formula.

<description>Hanna Digital Instruments Phosphate (LR) Photometer with 890 nm LED

Phosphates are particularly important for the growth and development of plant roots, and hence are one of the most common fertilizers used in agriculture.

In addition, phosphates are usually utilized in detergents and are needed, in small quantities, for heating systems. However, high concentrations of phosphates can cause environmental pollution: they are for example a primary cause of eutrophication.

For these reasons, it is necessary to closely monitor the phosphate levels present in aquariums, hydroponics, civil and industrial waste water.

In order to cater to the different needs of users in a wide array of applications, the HANNA phosphate meters have been designed to cover the following ranges:From 0.00 to 2.50 mg/L (HI 93713)

<description>Hanna Digital Instruments Iodine Photometer with 555 nm LED HI 93718, a microprocessor-based meter with lab-grade accuracy, determines iodine levels in water inexpensively and in seconds. The only thing you have to do is add the reagent to your sample, press "READ" button and get precise measurements! The disinfectant properties of iodine have led to its use as an alternative to chlorine and bromine. Unlike chlorinated pools, water treated with iodine decreases eye irritation among swimmers, and provides a level of disinfection more stable to adverse conditions. However, its toxic and corrosive properties and the difficulties of dissolving it in water has limited a more widespread application of Iodine use. One of its most common applications is in poultry industry process water and dosing of aquarium tanks. HANNA's HI 96822 Digital Refractometer is a rugged portable, water resistant device that utilizes the measurement of the refractive index to determine the salinity of natural and artificial seawater, ocean water or brackish intermediates. The HI 96822 benefits from HANNA's years of experience as a manufacturer of analytical instruments. This digital refractometer eliminates the uncertainty associated with mechanical refractometers and is rugged and portable enough to be used at home, in the lab and out in the field.

The HI 96822 is an optical device that is quick and easy to use. After a simple user calibration with distilled or deionized water, a seawater sample can be introduced into the sample well.

Within seconds, the refractive index and temperature are measured and converted into one of 3 popular measurement units: Practical Salinity Units (PSU), Salinity in parts per thousand (ppt), or Specific Gravity (S.G. (20/20)). All conversion algorithms are based upon respected scientific publications using the physical properties of seawater (not sodium chloride).

Temperature (in C or F) is displayed simultaneously with the measurement on the large dual level display along with icons for Low Power and other helpful message codes.

<title>Calcium Hardness (Mg, Ca) Photometer w/555 nm LED</title>
<description>Calcium Hardness Photometer 0.0-2.70 mg-l Hanna Digital Instrument 2 year warranty Water, with exception to distilled water, contains dissolved salts (magnesium and calcium carbonates). The concentration of these salts determines the water hardness, which can be expressed in calcium carbonate or magnesium carbonate. The sum of these two represents the total hardness level. The presence of dissolved salts is due to the fact that water often comes from underground sources which are in turn made up of rain water filtered through deep ground layers. Rain water eventually reaches a waterproof flooring and forms a natural tank which is also called the water bearing stratum. By passing through the various layers of soil and rock, rain water dissolves some of the mineral substances. Hardness is a consequence of the type of rock layers which the water passes through and of its permanence in the water bearing stratum. In addition, this parameter is also related to the phenomenon of pipe rusting in water heating and cooling systems, reverse osmosis and demineralization plants. HANNA offers two different meters to measure magnesium and calcium, results are expressed in CaCO equivalent. <title>Salifert Phosphate Test Kit. 60 Tests</title>
<description>Salifert Phosphate Test Kit. 60 Tests. If phosphate is present in too high a concentration there may be an increase in growth of undesirable algae and if the phosphate level is higher than 0.04 mg/L the growth rate of corals and calcareous algae may decrease by as much as 90%. Washing fish food (a rich source of phosphates) after thawing can significantly reduce the input of phosphate, and using a high grade, phosphate free activated carbon can also help to keep phosphate levels as low as possible. The Salifert Phosphate test kit detects, in less than 5 seconds, the level of phosphate present. There are two different ranges within the kit: a low range for phosphate-phosphor from 0.01 - 1 mg/L and a medium range for phosphate-phosphor from 0.02 - 2 mg/L. Sufficient for 60 tests.
Can be used for marine, fresh and garden pond water

<title>Red Sea Marine Lab II Test Kit</title>
<description>Master test kit for a marine aquarium Correct water conditions are essential for all marine animals. Performing the tests Included in the Marine Lab will assist in establishing and maintaining a successful aquarium. Marine Lab includes tests for: pH, Alkalinity, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate. Includes a 0.85 fl.oz. trial bottle of Success Buff supplement. A stable pH is essential for the well being of all aquarium inhabitants. Alkalinity measures the capacity of seawater to absorb the acidic waste produced by fish, without affecting the pH. Maintaining an alkalinity of 2.2 meq/l will prevent sudden fatal drops in pH. Both pH and alkalinity should be tested regularly. Alkalinity level can be adjusted by using a buffering solution such as Success Buff. Ammonia, which is toxic for fish, is regularly introduced into the aquarium by fish waste. An established functioning Biological Filter, which house living colonies of nitrifying bacteria, will convert the ammonia to nitrite and thereafter to nitrate, which are less harmful. Regular testing for ammonia &amp; nitrite will provide a positive indication that your Biological Filter is functioning is in balance with the stocking level. Invertebrates react distressfully to low levels of nitrate. High nitrate levels will stress marine fish making them susceptible to infection. Excess nitrate is removed by partial water changes with nitrate-free water. Regular testing for nitrate will guide you as to when these essential water changes should be made. For more information on the tests included in the marine lab, please refer to the individual test-lab pages. Test for NH4, NO2, NO3, pH high, Alkalinity.

	<title>Nitrate Photometer with 555 nm LED</title>
<description>HANNA Instruments Nitrate Photometer with 555 nm LED, Low Range Nitrates are present in nature as a result of decomposition of organic microorganisms or due to their use as fertilizers. Nitrates reduce to nitrites, which in turn easily combine to form substances dangerous to man. A maximum level of 45 mg/L is established as a worldwide guideline for nitrate concentration in water. In Europe, the maximum consented level of nitrates in potable water is 50.0 mg/L, while in the USA the EPA has established a guideline for the maximum level of nitrate nitrogen of 10 mg/L (NO--N), which corresponds to 45.0 mg/L of nitrates. The HANNA solutions are HI 93728 and HI 93828, hand held meters suited for field measurement. Reading procedures have been made as simple as possible to allow everyone to perform accurate nitrate measurements. The kit provides you with all you need for field measurement: photometer, reagents and apparatus perfectly fitted in a rugged carrying case HI 93728 reads nitrogen nitrate from 0 to 30 mg/L (NO--N); multiply the readout by a factor of 4.43 and you can read up to 133 mg/L of nitrate (NO-). HI 93828 reads nitrate directly in mg/L of NO-, from 0 to 100 mg/L. With a normal 9V battery you will be able to get more than 300 measurements. The auto shut-off feature (after 10 minutes of non-use) guarantees a long battery life. <title>Ammonia Mini-Lab Test Kit</title>
<description>As fish digest their food, and as bacteria break down uneaten fishfood and other organic matter, Ammonia is set free into the aquarium water. In solution the total dissolved Ammonia changes between 2 forms, the toxic Ammonia (NH3) and less harmful Ammonium ions (NH4+ ) according to the pH and temperature of the water. The Red Sea Mini-Lab Ammonia test measures the concentration of total Ammonia present. In any aquarium the majority of the total Ammonia will be in the form of less harmful Ammonium ions (NH4+ ). A percentage of the Ammonium ions (NH4+ ) change as the pH increases, to the more toxic Ammonia (NH3). Consequently, in marine aquariums with pH 8.1-8.4, Ammonia will present a more serious problem than in freshwater tanks with pH around 7, since more toxic Ammonia will be formed. Concentrations of toxic Ammonia as low as 0.01 ppm already show negative effects on fish, while 0.1 ppm can be deadly to some species. When to test for Ammonia? New AquariumsRegular testing of the Ammonium level, pH and temperature, is very important in a newly set up aquarium where high levels of Ammonia are normal. As the new aquarium and the biological filter develop, nitrifying bacteria begin to break down the toxic Ammonia to a safe level, so that more animals can gradually be introduced. We advise to test daily for two to four weeks in a new aquarium. Established AquariumsEven low Ammonia levels stress and weaken the fish, which makes them more susceptible to parasitic infections such as white spot. Ammonia poisoning is usually displayed by acute symptoms of fish swimming very rapidly as in panic; or breathing very rapidly; or jumping out of the water. The chronic symptoms are gill and skin damage and sometimes color fading. At the first sign of any of the above symptoms test for Ammonia. Ammonia levels may rise in older aquariums, when the biological filter substrate has been damaged, for example after administration of a medicine. Also a blocked or fouled filter as well as decaying matter in the tank, may give rise to toxic Ammonia levels.
